IV Report KARACHI: Hamdard University (HU) conferred 1,718 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees on graduates from various disciplines at its 27th Convocation on February 22. Chancellor Sadia Rashid presided over the ceremony, held at the Madinat al-Hikmah campus. The degree recipients included seven PhD and 130 MPhil, Masters of Science and Engineering scholars. About 40 students received gold medals for their distinguished achievements in various examinations. Prof Dr Syed Mohammad Mubin was awarded the best teacher award, while Hafiz Imran Nawaz received the best researcher award. HU Chancellor Sadia Rashid and former senator and federal minister Javed Jabbar, the convocation's chief guest, handed awards and certificates to the graduates. IV report KARACHI: Stressing the need for awareness, a senior legal professional associated with the federal government's complaints addressing body on harassment, Sabika Shah, highlighted the gravity of workplace harassment in Pakistan. At an awareness seminar organised by Hamdard University (HU), Ms Shah, Regional Head of the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat for Protection Against Harassment (Fospah), cited a survey revealing that "all Pakistani women face this serious problem at least once in their lifetime." Shah defined harassment, noting, "It's not limited to men harassing women; a man can harass a man, and a woman can harass a female colleague." By Our Correspondent KARACHI: Delivering a solo lecture at the Centre of Excellence, Hamdard University (HU), a senior professor of medicine from a private university reminded the audience that obesity was gaining the status of a disease in Pakistan, as the number of adults living with it has doubled in the period since 1990. Prof Dr Karim Kammeruddin of Baqai University during a talk titled “Obesity Dialogue” stated that 50 per cent of the country’s adult population happen to be obese, which could be attributed to wanting to eat to obtain taste and pleasure instead of gaining nutrition and energy.
