1,718 degrees conferred at Hamdard University's 27th convocation

KARACHI: Hamdard University (HU) conferred 1,718 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees on graduates from various disciplines at its 27th Convocation on February 22. Chancellor Sadia Rashid presided over the ceremony, held at the Madinat al-Hikmah campus.
The degree recipients included seven PhD and 130 MPhil, Masters of Science and Engineering scholars. About 40 students received gold medals for their distinguished achievements in various examinations. Prof Dr Syed Mohammad Mubin was awarded the best teacher award, while Hafiz Imran Nawaz received the best researcher award.
HU Chancellor Sadia Rashid and former senator and federal minister
Javed Jabbar, the convocation's chief guest, handed awards and certificates to
the graduates. Chancellor Rashid urged the graduates to renew their commitment
to serving the nation, as per the vision of HU founder Shaheed Hakim Mohammed
Said.
She pointed out to the outgoing students that they are entering a new phase of life that promises opportunities to excel and holds challenges as well. “Keep in mind that you should never fail to grasp the opportunities and at the same time meet the challenges with confidence,” she stated.
Jabbar recalled his association with late Hakim Said and praised
HU's research projects for their relevance to the wider world. He emphasised
the graduates' good fortune in receiving higher education at an institution
like Hamdard.
HU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Shabib-ul-Hasan highlighted the university's achievements, including the production of 294 research papers in 2024, published in peer-reviewed journals recognised by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. He also mentioned the setting up of a dedicated Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and the provision of concessions in fees or scholarships worth Rs159 million to meritorious students.
The convocation proceedings were conducted by HU Registrar Kaleem
A Ghias, while Advocate Anwar Ahmed presented the vote of thanks.
HU, with about 10,000 enrolled students, is offering over 100
programmes under seven faculties. Over 3,200 students were admitted in 2024,
