Edhi partners with SIUT to enhance medical training
Collaboration to develop academic programmes through SIMS and expand affordable, quality learning opportunities nationwide

KARACHI: Carrying forward the legacy
of his late father, renowned humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi, Edhi Foundation
CEO Faisal Edhi on December 11 signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with
the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) to enhance paramedic
education and training across the country. The collaboration aims to introduce
value-added programmes aligned with emerging needs in medical specialties.
At a ceremony held at SIUT, Director
Dr Adibul Hasan Rizvi and Faisal Edhi formalised the agreement, described as a
step toward establishing an academic programme to support medical and
paramedical education and training.
Before the signing, SIUT trustee
Syed Shabbar Zaidi told an audience of doctors and allied staff that
strengthening the paramedical workforce was essential to meet modern healthcare
demands in an era of rapidly expanding medical sciences. “This new
collaboration will give our youth access to quality education and training in a
conducive environment at an affordable cost,” he said.
In his remarks, Dr Rizvi recalled the longstanding relationship SIUT shared with the late Abdul Sattar Edhi and his wife Bilquees Edhi, calling Edhi a towering personality dedicated to serving humanity. He said Edhi had always envisioned initiatives focused on developing medical human resources, including the establishment of a medical education tower.
Calling the MoU a “great and
pleasant development,” Faisal Edhi pledged that the Edhi Foundation would bear all
financial obligations for the technical education project. If the initiative
proceeds smoothly, he added, it could be expanded nationwide.
According to an SIUT press release,
the MoU establishes a strategic partnership to strengthen cooperation in undergraduate
technical and medical education. The initiative will be implemented through the
Sindh Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), an HEC-recognised degree-awarding
institution functioning for years under the SIUT Trust.
Terming the event a significant step toward expanding educational opportunities and building collaborative capacity, SIUT said the MoU builds on a shared legacy of humanitarian service. It aims to equip students with modern learning tools, exposure to emerging technologies, and real-world clinical experience. Through this collaboration, both organisations seek to strengthen capacity building, nurture future healthcare leaders, and contribute to sustainable improvements in Pakistan’s health and education sectors.
SIUT further noted its longstanding
relationship with the Edhi Foundation. A donation of Rs100 million in 2014
enabled SIUT to renovate and convert an operating theatre into the Transplant
OT Complex. The Foundation has also provided eight ambulances and two loaders
that continue to transport critically ill patients at no cost.
