KU celebrates World Teachers' Day, emphasises respect for educators

IV Report

KARACHI: The University of Karachi (KU) held a special event to mark World Teachers' Day, highlighting the profound impact teachers have on society. KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid M Iraqi attended the teachers' appreciation ceremony, organised by KU administration and Unikarians International (UI), an alumni association.

Dr Iraqi emphasised that teachers are the architects of nations, shaping students' minds and guiding them throughout life. However, he noted that modern teachers often lack time to build character and guide students due to various constraints.

UI President Professor Ejaz Ahmed Faruqi stressed the importance of appreciating teachers' hard work and dedication, while former KU pro-VC Professor Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi highlighted teachers' pivotal role in shaping students' personalities.

Karachi University Teachers Association President Professor Dr Shah Ali ul Qadr encouraged teachers to go beyond syllabus teaching and interact with students for holistic development.

World Teachers' Day, celebrated globally on October 5, focuses on "Valuing teacher voices: towards a new social contract for education."
